Local History

Te Puru Holiday Park began life in the early 1940’s, originally opening as Boomerang Motor Camp.
Our trams started arriving in 1957, some still remaining in the original families. A local logger would take timber from the Peninsula to Auckland and would come back with a tram carriage.  Auckland’s loss, our gain 🙂
We also have a very old Pohutukawa Tree at the far end of the Park. This is a magnificent tree that is worth a look any time of year. We are unsure of its exacted age but it is rumored to be one of the oldest in New Zealand. In the adjoining reserve is another Pohutukawa of historical significance.
